Nic Goes to NASA
A Geek's Tour: 11-Mar-2005 – 15-Mar-2005
The new Ground Camera Ascent Imagery Project (GCAIP) at NASA makes videos (film, standard-definition TV, high-definition TV, and digital video) of spacecraft launches and distributes the image data to analysis labs at the Kennedy Space Center, Johnson Space Center and Marshall Space Flight Center. To handle the data distribution between centers, they purchased software from my employer, which worked out quite well for all involved. Unfortunately, problems arose late in testing. With their deadlines looming, and email/phone support proving to be too slow in providing a resolution, they decided that more direct measures should be taken. They decided to call in the best.
Fortunately for me, he couldn't make it, so it was decided that I should go instead. ;)
It was as though I'd died and gone to geek heaven. My thanks go out to the people I worked with for their professionalism, their warmth, and for taking the time to show me around. I truly appreciate it.
I took some pictures while I was down there, in an attempt to chronicle my travels. Click on a picture to see a larger version/description.
